The Government’s decision to remove Mana Whakahono ā Rohe agreements is a reminder that our relationships matter.
For Tūwharetoa, having a say in decisions that affect our whenua, our wai and our people has never been about politics. It’s about our responsibility as tangata whenua and kaitiaki.
We stand alongside Ngāti Tūrangitukua, whose existing agreement is directly affected by these changes. Their work shows what can be achieved when iwi and local government work together with respect and a shared commitment to their communities.
Governments will change. Laws will change. Our responsibility to protect the interests of Tūwharetoa won’t.
That’s why we’ll continue standing up for our iwi and hapū, protecting the agreements we’ve fought hard to achieve, and making sure our voice continues to be heard.
These decisions are also a reminder that participation matters. Staying informed, having your say and voting are some of the strongest ways we can help shape the future of our people, our communities and our rohe.
