Rāhui placed at Hatepe, Lake Taupō

Rāhui placed at Hatepe, Lake Taupō following incident

Update Saturday, 19 February 2022: The Rahui has now been lifted.

A rāhui has been placed by Ngāti Tūwharetoa at the Hatepe river mouth and heading south along the lake foreshore. This is due to an unfortunate incident that occurred during the weekend of the 13th of February 2022.

The Rāhui will likely be in place until the 19th of February 2022.

Our wishes are with the affected family at this time.

(Rāhui is a cultural protocol that restricts the site from common use and is also an acknowledgement of the significance of what has occurred and preserves the site from disturbance)’.
