Celebrate 100 Years of Tūwharetoa
Join us for a special weekend on Lake Taupō as we celebrate 100 years of the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board with a whānau fishing competition, activities, prizes, and kai.
Whether you’re an experienced angler or introducing tamariki to fishing for the first time, this event is an opportunity to gather, compete, and celebrate together.

- Registrations Open: 14 August 2026
- Registrations Close: 1:00pm, Thursday 15 October 2026
- Online Briefing: 4:00pm, Thursday 15 October 2026
- Fishing Starts: 5:00am, Friday 16 October 2026
- Fishing Finishes: 3:00pm, Saturday 17 October 2026
- Prizegiving: 5:00pm, Saturday 17 October 2026 at Pukawa Marae

Who Can Enter?
Entry is open to:
- Registered members of the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board
- Spouses of registered members
- Tamariki of registered members
All anglers must hold a current Taupō Fishing Licence. Complimentary licences will be available for eligible participants who do not currently hold one.
Fishing Area
Fishing is permitted within:
- Lake Taupō
- Eligible Taupō tributaries
The following areas are excluded:
- Waikato River
- Lake Otamangakau
Participants are encouraged to take photographs of their catch, including location and time information, to assist with verification.

Important Check-In Information
All registered entrants must check in at Pukawa Marae on Saturday, 17 October 2026.
Failure to complete in-person registration verification may affect eligibility for prizes and prize draws.

Saturday Activities
The celebration continues beyond fishing with activities for the whole whānau:
- CCD educational game
- Jigging wānanga
- Colouring competition
- Fly-tying demonstrations
Fishing Rules
Participants must:
- Hold a current Taupō Fishing Licence
- Fish only during official competition hours
- Follow Taupō Fishing Licence regulations
- Present fish fresh and ungutted at weigh-in
- Observe minimum size limits and catch limits
- Attend designated weigh-in stations before closing times
The decision of the Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board on all competition matters is final.

Participant safety is our priority.
- Follow all boating and water safety requirements.
- Check weather and water conditions before heading out.
- Observe all event boundaries and restricted areas.
- Report incidents or safety concerns to event officials.
- Follow instructions from event staff at all times.
Prizegiving
Join us at Pukawa Marae from 5:00pm on Saturday 17 October 2026 as we celebrate the competition winners, acknowledge participants, thank volunteers and sponsors, and conclude the weekend festivities
