Trust Board makes submission on Natural Environment and Planning Bills

The Tūwharetoa Māori Trust Board strongly opposes the Bills, through its parliamentary submission, joining iwi across Aotearoa, to challenge legislation that threatens the integrity of our taiao.

The submission outlines significant concerns that the Bills represent a regression in New Zealand’s environmental law, enabling easier and more intensive use of our natural resources, limiting iwi and hapu participation in decision-making, and undermining existing Treaty settlement arrangements, including those relating to the Upper Waikato and Taupo Waters.

The Trust Board is calling for stronger environmental protection, full recognition of Treaty settlement commitments and meaningful iwi and hapu involvement to ensure the long-term health of our taiao for future generations.
