Ngāti Tūwharetoa
Genesis Energy Committee (NTGEC)

After a lengthy consultation period between Genesis Energy and Ngāti Tūwharetoa, in 2000 the Tūwharetoa Maori Trust Board (on behalf of hapu of Ngāti Tūwharetoa) and Genesis Energy signed an agreement to mitigate the ongoing impacts of the Tongariro Power Development Scheme (TPDS) on Ngāti Tūwharetoa.

An outcome of this agreement is the establishment of the Ngāti Tūwharetoa Genesis Energy Committee (NTGEC). The primary purpose of the committee is to distribute the mitigation funds on behalf of Ngāti Tūwharetoa. The Committee provides support for cultural, educational, health, and environmental initiatives.
