Rates Remissions
Within our rohe some of the District and Regional authorities have rates remission policies that are put in place to reduce hardship for Māori freehold landowners who have not yet developed their land and are still being asked to pay rates.
Rates remission policies are an agreement between the authority and the landowners whereby the authority agrees not to charge rates providing the land block meets certain criteria.
Generally the criteria is -
- the land must be Māori freehold land in multiple ownership
- the land must be non-income producing
- the land must be undeveloped
- the land must be un-occupied
