Ngāti Tūwharetoa - Mighty River Power Development Group

Overview:

Ngāti Tūwharetoa and Mighty River Power have been working together since Mighty River Power’s formation in 1999. In that time the two parties have developed a robust working relationship, culminating in the signing of a long term agreement in October 2002.

The agreement established a Development Group to be the primary stewards of the relationship between Mighty River Power and the Ngāti Tūwharetoa. The group is required to comprise of three representatives of Ngāti Tūwharetoa, one of whom is appointed by the Trust Board and three representatives of Mighty River Power. The Chair of the group is the representative appointed by the Trust Board.

The Development Group focuses strongly on the following areas:

  • Individual & group achievement in Sport, Arts & culture in national and international arenas
  • Culture, Hapū and Iwi Projects/Wānanga, Oral History
  • Ngāti Tūwharetoa programmes or initiatives
  • Leadership
