Tūwharetoa Cultural Knowledge Project
The Tūwharetoa Cultural Knowledge project commenced in November 2009 and is due to complete in June 2012. The project is aimed at embedding Tūwharetoa cultural knowledge within the curriculums of schools throughout Taupō and Tūrangi. The Cultural Knowledge Project Team consists of:
- Te Kanawa Pitiroi – Cultural Advisor
- Colin Rangi - Project Co-ordinator (Phases 1-3)
- Miriama Prentice – Curriculum Facilitator/Co-ordinator (Phase 4)
- Petrina Bramley – Whānau Hāpori Co-ordinator
The project was launched at Pukawa Marae and to date many hapū have provided kōrero and professional development to many kaiwhakaako/teachers via wānanga. The collection of authentic hapū knowledge which has been transmitted by hau kāinga has proved successful. We hope to provide a portal through which teachers can access learning resources, whilst providing a secure source to ensure information integrity.
